Karl Truman aims to bring Christmas cheer to the Louisville military community
The holidays can be a very stressful time for military families. Often, there are miles separating families from their loved ones who are deployed to remote corners of the world, and this separation is felt all the more strongly during the Christmas season.
Operation Christmas Spirit is an effort to bring holiday cheer to deserving military families in the Louisville area by providing full holiday meals free of charge. Ten deserving families will receive a holiday dinner courtesy of Famous Dave’s BBQ, attorney Karl Truman, and radio station 106-9 Play.
These holiday dinners will be personally delivered to each family in the comfort of their own home by Mr. Truman, who is sponsoring the event.
“It is important to take care of our military families who are separated from their loved ones during the holiday season. I am glad to be able to help provide a holiday meal to help these families during this stressful time,” said Mr. Truman.
The idea for Operation Christmas Spirit came from radio station 106.9, which plays Christmas music every year as a way to help lift the spirits of local military families. This is the first year for the program, and due to overwhelming response everyone involved hopes to continue it next year and for years to come.
In addition to Operation Christmas Spirit, Mr. Truman has also sponsored Honor Flights for veterans to fly to Washington, DC. He also sponsors the Indiana and Kentucky Veterans of the Year awards. As a former officer in the Army himself, Mr. Truman is always looking for ways to give back to the local military community in and around Louisville.
“I feel privileged to be able to show my gratitude to our veterans through events such as Operation Christmas Spirit,” said Mr. Truman.
